Discussion of Tourism Opportunities in Stokes County

Where: YMCA Camp Hanes Conference Room- 1225 Camp Hanes Rd. King, NC 27021
A dedicated group of local citizens and officials have been working to map the tourism assets of Stokes County and determine how to best conserve, manage and develop these assets to create jobs and new investment in the community. We need your input and support to make this a success. Please join us to review our progress and for a frank discussion on how we can take full advantage of the opportunities that tourism offers to the citizens of Stokes County.

Moores Springs Trail Progress

Tony McGee, Sean Barb and many many others have been hard at work on the Moores Springs Mountain Bike Trails which is on the property of Sertoma 4-H Educational Center. Sean has created an awesome map of the trails so far. I captured some screenshots below.

Winston-Salem Journal reporter Lisa O’Donnell and photographer Jennifer Rotenizer visited Tony McGee and Debbie Martin at the Moores Springs trailhead and learned all about the amazing goings-on at the site. The article outlines the partnership between Workforce Development, Sertoma 4-H Educational Center (aka Camp Sertoma) and StokesCore. Great things are happening in our beautiful county!

For those folks interested in finding out what is going on with the trails, please visit and join the Moore’s Springs Trails Group on Facebook.

Moore’s Spring Trails (MST) are a collaboration of StokesCORE, Sertoma 4-H Center and NC Workforce Development. There are almost 5 miles of trails built so far.

Sweet Potato Cook-Off

Below are documents related to the November 7th Sweet Potato Cook-off for 2009 which StokesCORE sponsors annually. This year we are partnering with 4-H to celebrate their Centennial with them. Previous distributions of this information may have shown a $5.00 entry fee for the dishes entered in the cook-off. That fee is being waived. If you know anyone who may be interested in this cook-off opportunity which does include prize money, please feel free to forward this email to them.

Financial A$$i$tance MAY be available for Electrician Helper, Intro to Masonry, Landscape, Welding, Computer and Keyboarding Classes. Call 336-593-2482 for information to see if you qualify. This assistance made possible through the Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments and WorkForce Development.
